ESAN Youth Movement (EYM), has insisted that it would resist any move by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) outside the zone to dictate to the people of Edo Central Senatorial district who flags its ticket in the Senate in 2019.
The group therefore called on the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who is also the party’s leader in the State to call Governor Obaseki to order.
They also called on the Governor to address the issues in his native Edo South Senatorial district and allow Esan people to decide their fate.
A statement in Benin yesterday by the President of the group, Mr Kingsley Ohens, stated that the people of Edo Central Senatorial district reserves their God given right to choose and install their leaders at all levels.
The group also condemned what it called, “a brazen act of imposition” saying that it rejects it in its entirety.
They disclosed that they have it on good authority that the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Osarodion Ogie acting on the instructions of Governor Godwin Obaseki allegedly gave a marching order to the five council chairmen in the Sensational district to impose the present Commissioner of Finance, Mr. John Inegbedion as the candidate of the party in the area.
However, when contacted, Mr Osarodion Ogie said that the information was heresy, saying that ,”as a lawyer, I don’t believe in heresy”. Continuing, the Esan Youth Movement said “We, Esan people of Edo Central Senatorial District shall resist and reject attempts directly or by proxy to impose candidates on our people in the forthcoming elections into the State and National Assemblies.
“This sad development has been possible by the active collaboration of fifth columnists in Esanland working in tandem with external forces with a view to undermining our collective patrimony. “One the greatest pillars of democracy is the Inalienable right of the people to choose who leads them and this explains why it is described as government of the people, for the people, by the people
