Worried by the series of petitions and negative comments over the state of the hurriedly commissioned new Central Hospital Complex in Benin City, built by the then government of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the Edo State House of Assembly last week summoned the courage to unravel the circumstances that led to the abandonment of the ultra-modern multi-billion naira health facility, after over two years of official commissioning by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Informed sources are of the opinion that the setting up of an Adhoc committee to look into the issues surrounding the abandoned hospital complex, was the beginning of a massive probe to be launched at the eight years administration of the state former governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
“Petitions and complaints against the actions and inactions of the immediate past government of the state are overwhelming and the House wants to begin the probe with just a scratch.
“All things been equal, the probe into the new central hospital building complex is just the beginning of other probes to come. The state Assembly speaker, Rt. Hon. Adjoto and most of his members are seriously prepared to look into the activities of the immediately past administration in the state.
“Also of important note is the abandoned Benin City Storm Water Project which has swallowed nearly 50 billion naira of tax payers money.
“A careful observation has shown that Governor Obaseki has carefully stayed away from some of the questionable project especially the new central hospital and the storm water project started by his predecessor. He (Obaseki) does not want to stain himself or get his fingers burnt by such shady projects.
“Very soon, the state House of Assembly adhoc committee will open a can of worms from their investigation into the abandoned Central Hospital building. Then, more probes will follow and more dirty deals by the previous government will be revealed”, stated a source close to the leadership Edo State House of Assembly.
The House last week during its plenary and acting on the petition from the Talakawa Parliament which prayed the House to investigate the circumstances that led to the abandoned new Central hospital Complex, Benin City, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, constituted the Ad-hoc committee headed by the member representing Etsako central constituency and house committee chairman on Appropriation, Hon Damian Lawani.
Other members of the committee are Hon Victor Ojo Asein representing Owan West constituency, Hon Foly Ogedengbe, representing Owan East constituency, Hon Eghe Osazewinde, representing Ovia North East constituency 1, Hon Godwin Adenomo, representing Ovia south west constituency, Hon osaigbovo Iyoha, representing Oredo constituency and Hon Monday Ehighalua, representing Esan west constituency.
