Inspire Students Towards Career Path – Okoduwa Tells Edo Parents, Teachers

 

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Anti Human Trafficking Issues, Solomon Okoduwa has urged teachers and parents to continuously inspire school children to aim high and achieve their full potentials.

Okoduwa gave the admonition on Tuesday at Our Lady of Lords Girls Grammar School, Uromi during the ongoing school to school campaign against human trafficking and irregular migration.

The governor’s aide was emphatic that inability of teachers or their parents to guide them through career pursuits that they could fail to achieve their purpose in life and thereby being tempted to engage in negative activities.

According to him, there are cases when parents mislead their children or wards to engage in negative things like allowing them to be trafficked abroad because of their perceived benefits.”

Okoduwa continued, “In most cases, they blame poverty as reason for doing it. Some say they want their children to lift their family out of the shackles of poverty. Ask them why didn’t they do it when they were young?

“Teachers are role models and they should key into the Governor Godwin Obaseki’s advocacy against human trafficking and irregular migration by ensuring that the students are not deceived.

We have observed that the traffickers now target aged 14 -17 years in their ploy to misinform them.

It is also the responsibility of teachers to teach the students how they get mentors in line with their career pursuits or talk about how you chose your career path and the barriers you have had to overcome along the way in reaching your goals.”

Forms for Anti Human Trafficking Club which will be inaugurated before the end of the first quarter of the year were given out to interested students.

The governor’s aide who is also a human Rights activist informed the students that inter-school debate and quiz competition will be held later in the year on human trafficking related issues.

The Principal of the school, Ugege Ononrere described the advocacy programme as an inspiration to both students and teachers.

High point of the exercise was the distribution of Advocacy CDs tilted A journey of Anguished, danger and death, educational materials including notebooks and text books sponsored by APC Candidate for Edo Central Senatorial District, John Osagie  Inegbedion and Hon. Joseph Ikpea, APC Candidate for House of Representatives, Esan South East and Esan North East Federal Constituency to the students.

The elated beneficiaries including the Senior Prefect of the school, Miss Chukwujekwu Chiamaka thanked the donors for the initiative.
