The case between the Benin Electricity Distribution Company and Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO) came up for hearing, last week.
The counsel representing the BEDC who had allegedly delayed the commencement of the case at several sittings with withdrawals and filing of applications forced the court to slam the BEDC with a fine of N15, 000 to be paid to EDOCSO for time wasting.
It should be recalled that the BEDC took EDOCSO to court in order to get a perpetual injuction restraining the defendants from further protests against their alleged numerous unfair and exploitative business deals with the people.
Recall that the Governor of Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki few months ago had sent the Managing Director and the management team of the BEDC out of his office over unsatisfactory service delivery to the people of the state.
The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II at a different forum equally requested the President of Nigeria, General Mohammedu Buhari to cancel the licence of the BEDC, saying they have failed residents of the state.
However, the case has been adjourned to 10th of April, 2019, for further hearing.
