Presidential Election: Atiku Will Win At The Tribunal – Imasogie

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, Owere Dickson Imasogie, has expressed optimism that the presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would emerge victorious at the end of the tribunal sitting.
Owere Imasogie, who spoke with newsmen last week in Benin City, insisted that “majority of Nigerians voted for our candidate, Atiku Abubakar, across the country,” saying that there were very disturbing inconsistencies in the documents and affidavits deposed to by President Muhammadu Buhari and presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which are at variance with verifiable realities.
The PDP elder re-echoed details of Alhaji Atiku’s petition before the tribunal, maintaining that the President swore on oath and presented affidavits to INEC claiming to have attended Elementary School Daura and Mai Aduaa between 1948 and 1952.
“However,” he pointed out that “Atiku has informed the tribunal that those schools were not in existence between 1948 and 1952 and therefore Muhammadu Buhari could not have attended either of the schools.
“Again, our candidate has alleged that Muhammadu Buhari swore on oath that he attended Middle School, Katsina between 1953 and 1956. Atiku has put before the election tribunal that the Middle School Katsina was also not in existence as at 1953 and up till 1956. These are serious infractions on the provisions of the Electoral Acts and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Atiku has equally brought before the tribunal that Buhari swore on oath that he attended Katsina Provincial College between 1956 and 1961. On the contrary, our candidate has provided evidence to the tribunal that the Katsina Provincial College was not in existence between 1956 and 1961.
“We are convinced that once the tribunal concurs with these terrifying observations and infractions with conclusive evidence, Muhammadu Buhari will be in really serious predicament”, Owere Imasogie stated.
While emphasizing that these allegations, if established to be true, were clearly acts of perjury punishable by 14 years imprisonment under the Penal Code, Owere Imasogie maintained that under the 1999 Constitution, if proved to be indefensible, there would be an immediate disqualification of President Buhari and consequent voiding of all votes cast for him at the election, “because a disqualified candidate is not entitled to be credited with any vote.”
He remarked that he was in full support of the party’s and Atiku’s decision to go to the election petition tribunal, pointing out that it was within his constitutional rights to express displeasure at what he thought were serious misconducts by the Electoral Umpire, INEC, and the APC before, during and after the presidential elections of February 23, 2019.
“Nobody begged then General Buhari not to go to court the three times he previously contested for the presidency and failed. It is my opinion, too, that nobody should cast aspersions at Atiku for challenging the results as declared by INEC arising from an election he participated in and believed he won.”
He urged Nigerians, especially PDP members and supporters to remain calm, prayerful and enthusiastic “as Atiku could yet reclaim his stolen mandate. All we insist on is that the presidency should stop its unconstitutional infiltrations into the affairs of the other arms of government.
“This is a matter in the domain of the judiciary and the judiciary should be allowed to judiciously look at the matter before it and pass judgment”, PDP Chieftain posited.
