The National Universities Commission (NUC) has expanded the admission quota of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), the
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Faraday Orumwense has said.
Prof. Orumwense disclosed this during the 2018/2019 Matriculation Ceremony of the institution held at Ugbowo Campus on Saturday.
He said the accredited of more courses in the University, has created enough room to accommodate more Candidates.
The VC revealed that the University received over Seventy-five Thousand (75, 000) applications for the 2018/2019 academic session while Eleven Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy-two (11,772) were given provisional admissions.
“Let me also place on record that the National Universities Commission has accredited more Courses in the University of Benin thereby creating enough room to accommodate more Candidates”.
According to him, the University of Benin is highly rated in the entire sub-Saharan Africa, which has since earned the nickname “UNIBEST”.
Orumwense while admonishing the matriculants to shun vices including cultism, prostitution, exam malpractice, amongst others, encouraged them to make use of the facilities provided by the ivory tower.
He also charged the students to remain focus in their academic pursuit and strive for excellence which he said is the hallmark of the University.
The University Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Otasowie Oshodin, administered Matriculation oath on the new students.
The matrculation ceremony presents students the opportunity to formally pledge allegiance to the University authorities through the subscription to the Matriculation oath.
Meanwhile, a total of 11,772 students who were offered provisional admission, matriculated.
