A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, Owere Dickson Imasogie, has stated that the self-inflicted crisis tearing apart the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) is highly irreconcilable.
The PDP Chieftain in an exclusive interview with The Reliance in Benin City, said though a major crisis in the APC was earlier envisaged but that the magnitude of the on-going intra-party squabbles was pleasantly surprising.
According to him, “I had said it several times that the APC members will fight themselves. This is so because as an experienced politician, I knew from the onset of APC that the members were not compatible but that they were all pretending.
“Yes, I expected and predicted trouble for the APC but what is happening now is beyond my expectation and that is why I said the crisis in the party can never be resolved because their differences are too great and is above the red line.
“Presently, all those involved in the APC crisis are very bitter and do not want to see each other face to face. Unfortunately, those in position to settle the dispute have already taken sides for and against.
“Beside, instead of the APC leaders to work towards peaceful settlement, they are blaming themselves and the PDP for their self-inflicted woes. I have said before that APC is not a party. It is an error and opportunistic and I am very happy that Nigerians are seeing what is happening in APC.
“It is highly unfortunate that the APC leaders are dragging the PDP into their internal problems. But what do you expect from a confused and divided people? If they are stealing money, they cry PDP. If they cannot provide dividends of democracy to the people, they shout PDP that is why we in PDP call them shameless people.
“Now, some busy body politicians in Edo State are carrying baseless rumors that the PDP will accept Governor Obaseki into its fold when he is finally pushed out of the APC. Some even alleged that we will make him our governorship candidate in 2020. All these are fake news.
“What will the PDP be doing with Obaseki when we have hundreds of capable members who are governorship materials. Obaseki is not in our reckoning at all. But as a true politician, I am very happy that my party’s political opponents are fighting.
“Happy because their base is being weakened. More so, their differences is irreconcilable. I know Oshiomhole very well and I also know what he is capable of doing. It is Obaseki, I do not know very well. However, I feel that no matter the problem, a sitting governor should not be insulting party leaders. publicly and calling them unprintable names.
“That is not fair at all. That is like biting the fingers that fed you. There is a Benin parable which says “it is where you work or invested in that you eat”. Unlike me who do not depend on party or government money to survive, many political leaders do not have any other business than politics. So they support you during election, when you win the election, it is proper you support them in return.
“It is the leaders that carry the load of the party. So, the governor was not tactful in condemning the APC leaders. It is a serious sin to bite the fingers that fed you.
“What is happening in APC now has further buttress our saying that the APC government is not a government at all. Right from the Federal to State and local government councils, they are the same. They have nothing but lies and propaganda to offer Nigerians.
“Also, I am seriously disappointed that a high level Technocrat like Odigie- Oyegun is exchanging words with Oshiomhole on the pages of newspapers. Everybody knows how Oshiomhole behaves and I think Oyegun should have ignored him totally.
“Truly speaking, the PDP is happy about the problem in APC and we pray that they continue to quarrel without end. PDP has already benefitted from their crisis. Imagine that from nine governors in 2015 to 15 in 2019. Yes, PDP is gaining from the trouble in APC and so they should continue tearing themselves apart,” Owere Imasogie, disclosed.
