The female farmer in Ofumwengbe Community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state was allegedly murdered in her farm last weekend by suspected Herdsmen who also raped her.
The search party assigned by elders in the Community discovered her death body in the bush after she was declared missing at the weekend.
It gathered that the ugly development infuriated the youths who fingered Herdsmen in the area for committing the dastardly act, mobilized themselves to the herders camp but on getting there they discovered that the herdsmen had fled their settlement ostensibly over fear of reprisal attack.
It was gathered that after returning from the camp disappointingly, the angry youths reportedly decended on a man believed to be from the northern part of the country.
Not satisfied with the alleged killing, the overcharged youths on Tuesday afternoon blocked Okada junction by Benin-Lagos expressway to protest the death of the female farmer.
Some windscreen of vehicles of travellers were allegedly smashed by suspected hoodlums who sang war songs and made burn fire.
The Highway was convulsed in heavy traffic for several hours while commuters were subjected to trekking long distances.
Edo State Commissioner of police, Mr. DanMallam Muhammed, said the cause of death of the woman was yet to be ascertained.
He however stated that there was no fight between the herdsmen and the youths.
According to him, “The Youths blocked the road because a woman died in the farm and they alleged that it was herdsmen that killed her.
“They did not wait for police investigation but blocked the road and brought hardship on travellers who did not know anything about the what happened in the area.
“The woman went to the farm and this morning she was discovered dead.
“The youths suspects it was herdsmen that killed her and nobody saw the herdsmen killing her,” he said.
He therefore warned youths not to embarked on misguided protests as hoodlums always hijack such protests.
Mr. Danmallam said investigation into the incident has already commenced.
