First Executive Governor of Edo State, Chief John Kenneth Evboyeomwan Odigie Oyegun has called on Nigerian politicians to follow his political and lifestyles so as to engender political growth in the country.
The former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said his success in life was as a result of his principled lifestyle and zero tolerance for corrupt practices.
Oyegun who recently turned 80 years, disclosed that “one reason I have been what I am is my attitude to principled leadership based on integrity, due process, justice, fairness, and equity.”
The Octogenarian who appreciated God for long life and good health said in service to God and humanity, he has lived a very magnanimous life and urged others political leaders to emulate him for a greater Nigeria.
“The one reason I have lived that life totally devoid of corruption is to prove to people that a man’s integrity can also get him to the top in politics and business. So my prayers has always been that if only one, two, three or maybe ten persons believe in what I stand for and try to replicate what I stand for, I will consider myself a fulfilled life.”
Responding to a question as to why his 80th birthday celebration was mostly attended by members of the opposition PDP as against expectations from members of his party, the ruling APC, Oyegun’s said his life at 80 is to build bridges across and unite Nigerians irrespective of political affiliations.
“As an 80 years old man, I extended invitations to all political leaders irrespective of political affiliations. I want to set that one more example. So when that time comes to campaign and to have political fight to win elections, then you can go ahead and draw the battle line. But aside that, we all have a common interest which is the progress of our people and I have a divergent view of how to achieve it.”
