The Edo State Motorcycles and Tricycles Union under the aegis of Anacowa Natomaras Neotomora Escoba Welfare Amora Toder Twan (ANNEWATT), has held its second end of the year meeting in Benin City, the Edo State Capital.
At the meeting cum seminar, various speakers including representatives of Edo State Internal Revenue Service, representative of the Edo State Police Command, ACP Ayo Faniyan and other stakeholders, the need for the Motorcycle and Tricycle riders to be security conscious all the time was stressed.
They dwelt extensively on the need for the operators to be law abiding and to always ride safely, even as they should be very observant of the activities and behaviours of their passengers.
The ‘Okada’ and Keke Rider were further enjoined to avoid over speeding and overloading, especially now that the yuletide season is around the corner.
They were however warned against indiscriminate consumption of alcoholic product while on duty and to desist from unauthorized routes so as to avoid the wrath of the state government.
Also speaking, Coordinators of ANNEWATT, Comrade Oregbe Omorodion and Hanna Destiny Mohammed said the meeting was for members of the union to come together to reappraise their activities during the outgoing year and to discuss better ways of doing their business.
They commended the maturity being exhibited by the ‘Okada’ and Keke riders in the state and admonished them not to lower the high standard they have attained over the years.
The ANNEWATT Coordinators were also full of encomiums for the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for harmonizing the eight associations to form one strong body and making collection of venue very easy, peaceful and painless.
They therefore pledged the loyalty of their union to the state government under the leadership of Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and called on all Edo people to support his reelection bid come 2020.
Highpoint of the well-attended event was the presentation of wards to deserving members of the public including Hon. Alex Oviawe, a councilor in Egor Local Government Council, Mrs. Ruth Omine – a Revenue collector in Oredo Local Government Council, Police Sgt Patience Uhunamure and a posthumous award to a late Enforcer.
Most members of ANNEWATT who spoke at the occasion expressed satisfaction and happiness about the ceremony. They thanked and passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the union for the good way they are piloting the affairs of the body.
