Unless there is a last minute change, Rt. Hon. Anthony Aziegbemi will emerge the new chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo State branch.
His emergence will predicate in the withdrawal of a frontline aspirant for the position, Senator Magnus Odion Ugbesia.
Investigation revealed that Ugbesia who until his recent withdrawal from the race was leading contestant for the post.
Ugbesia, it was learnt was advised to withdrawal from the chairmanship race due to some irreconcilable political factor.
It was further learnt that some leaders of the party had prevailed on him to stand-down for the interest of the party.
“Before his (Ugbesia’s) withdrawal, he was as good as being the elected party chairman because the who is who in the party at the state level was supporting him.
“But now that he is out of the race, loyalty has shifted to Hon. Tony Aziegbemi for the chairmanship position. Our leaders are very sure that he will fly and that he is competent and capable.
Rt. Hon. Aziegbemi was a two-term chairman of Esan North East local government area and spent eight years as the representative of Esan North East/Esan South East Federal Constituency at the House Representatives.
“Another person in the race for the PDP state chairmanship position is Hon. Felix Imoisihi who is not politically strong as Rt. Hon. Aziegbemi,” the source added.
Imoisihi is the outgoing state secretary of the PDP and he hails from Igueben Local Government Area of the state.
He has held chairmanship position in Igueben LGA where he served two terms. He was later appointed as Special Adviser to the then Minister of Works, Arch Mike Onolemenmen.
Investigations revealed that Rt. Hon. Aziegbemi will be officially elected and unveiled during its forthcoming state congress of the party.
