The Benin Royal father, Oba Ewuare II, has disclosed that traditional rulers in the state, will soon collectively pray for the peaceful conduct of the Governorship election scheduled for September 19, in the state.
According to the revered monarch, plans are on top gear to call the Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs to pray for a peaceful election in the state.
Oba Ewuare II, stated this in Benin City, when governor Obaseki led some visiting governors, senators and other top ranking officials of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to his palace on a courtesy call.
The royal father who stressed the need for traditional rulers to eschew partisan politics, further disclosed that his palace was always non partisan.
He stated that it was the duty of traditional rulers to always pray for politicians who have the intention of providing good leadership for the people of the state and create employment and development to enable the people have good life.
Ewuare II, also revealed that his prayers have been sustaining Governor Godwin Obaseki, since his assumption of office as governor of the state.
He said: “I remembered when I visited Governor Obaseki in his office, he asked me to pray for him to be able to complete his tenure in office.
“And I did and today, he has not been impeached despite the ups and downs and I thank my God and my ancestors for answering my prayers.
“God and his ancestors have been answering my prayers whenever I prayed and the forthcoming governorship election will not be an exception,” he said.
Earlier, National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Secondus Uche, told the Benin monarch that they were at the palace to seek his blessings and permission to go on with their political campaign in the state.
Also speaking, Governor Godwin Obaseki told the monarch that he decided to visit the palace to seek his blessings before continuing with his campaign.
