Seven Youths including Joseph Oshiomah, Kelly Dunia, Benedict Agbebaku, Kassim Oyarekhua, Inusa Braimah, Augustine Inakhabor and Okpe Moses are now fingers of the law as they are wanted by the Police over their alleged involvement in the fracas between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) that resulted in the death of two persons in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect particularly Kelly Dunia, according to a Police statement has been on their wanted list since the incident occurred during the governorship election in the State, several months ago. He is said to be one of the thugs that ignited the crisis that led to the death of a 72 years old farmer, Obisaeyi Ivharbe and one Joachim Imoodumeh.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Charles Nwanbuzor said the Police had spread its drag net to fish him and his accomplished out and make them to face the full weight of the law The police image maker stated that, in-spite of the Police commitment to prosecuting offenders, this particular case must be pushed to logical conclusion given the amount of interest the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has shown in the matter
The Governor has during his condolence visit to the relations of the victims of the political crisis in Fugar directed the Police to go after all those involved in the killing no matter how highly placed in the society and irrespective of their political affiliation. The Governor had said it is very clear that in this act of violence, one PDP member and one APC member were killed while three houses belonging to APC members were burnt in the fracas.
The Governor said, “I think it is not good for political thugs go burning people’s houses. We can win election any day without resorting to violence; our greatest weapon is performances not guns, not bullets and not cutlasses. Those who destroyed the houses have destruction awaiting them. Everything must be done to isolate politics from criminals because it does not matter the political affiliation of the perpetrators. There is no hiding place for those killers they must be brought to justice at all cost”.
The Governor who spoke in a split of anger promised to promptly sign the death warrant of perpetrators of the acts of murder and arson when condemned by a Court of Competent Jurisdiction because it is the responsibility of the government to clean up the political system.
The Police, however stated that it’s latest action was borne out of genuine confessional statement linking Kelly Dunia and others to the crime, just as it edge members of the public with useful information as to the whereabouts of the suspect to contact the state police command headquarters in Benin City or any nearest police station for a handsome reward.
