The Edo Traders Welfare Union has honoured the member representing Oredo Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Engr) Ogbeide-Ihama Omoregie, alongside 11 others.
The award which was part of activities to mark the Union’s end of year party was in recognition of Hon Ogbeide-Ihama’s drive towards youth and women empowerment, hatred for oppression and his generosity.
Speaking at the event, the president of the union, Comrade Lucky Orukpe, said the union has rescued a lot of traders from the hands of oppressors within and outside the market places in Edo State.
He pointed at the annual cult clash and killings which he said has stopped for the past one year.
The union boss said the issue of illegal ticketing, unaccountable revenue drive and other strangulating agenda of some persons who he described as miscreants, have since stopped.
The Chief Security Officer to the Edo State Government House, Comrade Aruna Yusuf, in his remarks, urged the traders to unite in eradicating molestation which is still prevalent in some corners of the markets. He used the opportunity to wish the union well in the forthcoming Yuletide.
Responding, the House of Representatives Member, Rt. Hon. Ogbeide-Ihama, said he is in full support of the union. He stressed that the Ogbeide-Ihama Foundation which he founded, will partner with the union to ensure that children who hawks wares during school hours, are made to join their mates in schools.
He demonstrated his love for Windows when he doled out the sums of #500,000 for them to celebrate the forthcoming Yuletide while he sponsored a Christmas party for the union with another #500,000.
Other recipients of the Edo Traders Welfare Union’s
awards were Peter Odion Odigie, Chairman, Oredo Volunteer Vigilante, Paul Akhere Odigie, Chairman, Edo State Butchers Association, Comrade Mrs Josephine Aigbadon, CSP Patrick Yerima, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the New Benin Division, amongst others.
