The feud between Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has taken a new twist as the governor on Monday disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor.
The governor directed that the Deputy Governor should henceforth request the Ministry of Communication and Orientation for media coverage of activities of his office.
According to Mr. Chris Osa Nehikhare, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation,
the directive followed the ugly incident that happened during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of Midwest Referendum celebration held Benin City.
He disclosed that some journalists, who claimed to be the media crew of the Deputy Governor, attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated.
“This act was contrary to the accredited protocol that had been established for the media coverage of the event,” Mr. Nehikhare stated.
As a result of the ugly incident, the deputy governor hastily left venue of the ceremony which the state government has described as an “orchestrated and stage managed walkout and disruption.
