The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Thursday, donated a 15-seater Toyota Hiace Bus to the Edo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), to help the union effectively carry out its activities and duties.
Presenting the bus to the union at the Oba Oguola Press Centre in Benin City, Governor Obaseki represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Osaigbovo Iyoha, thanked journalists in the State for professionally discharging their duties as members of the fourth estate of the realm, working in partnership with the government to drive growth and development across the State.
“Today, I am here in keeping with the promise made by His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, during a party at this press centre, I present to the NUJ, a brand new bus on behalf of the Governor of Edo State.
“I thank you for all that you do. The value of the work that you do can’t be overemphasized and I hope that you keep saying the truth like you do. We thank you and appreciate you for being a partner in progress for the people of Edo State,” the chief of staff, stated.
Chairman of the Edo NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, in his response, commended Governor Obaseki for fulfilling his promises to the union, assuring the continued collaboration of the journalists with the government for the sustained progress and development of the State.
According to Alenkhe, “I thank you on behalf of the leadership of the NUJ, Edo State Council. We like to express our heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State for the donation of this brand-new bus. We accept it wholeheartedly and want to assure you that this bus shall be judiciously used for the purpose which it’s meant for.
“We shall use it to cover assignments in Edo State and beyond and shall continue to balance every report that comes to us in the Edo State Council of NUJ. Tell the governor that journalists in Edo State are all very happy and you can see our faces right now. This message will be communicated all over the world,” the state NUJ boss, posited.
Some journalists, led by Comrade Alenkhe, later had a jolly ride in the new Toyota bus.
