There was a serious security breach on November 21, 2022, in the peaceful Aruogba Community, Benin City, Edo State, when some yet to be identified gunmen numbering about 10, around 8am kidnapped two women, amidst heavy shootings.
Our Crimes Correspondent, reported that the hitherto peaceful Aruogba Community was thrown into confusion when some unknown gunmen gained access into a compound of one of the victims by secretly trailing the son of the owner of the house and through him gained access into the compound.
It was reported that as soon as the armed criminals gained entry into their victim’s compound situated at No. 7, Anthony Osi-Iyere Street, they in a commando style took total control of the entire house and in the process took away wife of the owner of the house whose name was given as Mrs. Nosakhare Iyere.
It was further learnt that another woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained was also whisked away from the same street by the gunmen.
However, the unknown woman was later let off the hook as soon as the kidnappers found their way out of the community as they were said to be shooting into the air to scare residents of the from pursuing after them.
Our Crimes Correspondent who visited the area, disclosed that the community was in pensive mood, days after the kidnapping incident.
Husband of the abducted woman, Mr. Victor Iyere, said in an interview that the armed men who raided his house in a commando style and snatched his wife away were very deadly.
Asked whether he knew anything that could have necessitated the actions of the gangsters, he said he didn’t know what could be responsible at that moment.
However, he expressed shock why the “other woman taken from the street was released almost immediately but my wife was taken away.”
He expressed deep worries that days after his wife was whisked away, the kidnappers were yet to communicate with him or any member of the family.
Mr. Iyere, confirmed that the incident has been lodged at the Iyekogba Police Station.
But when our Correspondent visited the police station, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), for his comment on the issue, he was said to have been out of the office. However, a police officer who would not want his name in print, confirmed the incident and stated that the police were already investigating the matter with the aim of rescuing the abducted woman unharmed.
“The DPO has gone to the police headquarters for a meeting with the police commissioner. But as for the kidnap incident, I can tell you in confidence that a woman was reported kidnapped some days ago and the police have already commenced investigation with the hope of bringing the woman to her family unhurt”, the police officer, posited.
