The candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has stated that the planned nationwide protest against bad government and hunger by some Nigerians is highly unnecessary.
The governorship candidate who made the assertion on Tuesday during a media chat with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, in Benin City, advised the organisers of protest to shelve their plans and give president Bola Tinubu ample time to fix the economy for the overall benefits of all.
Okpebholo however noted that should the proposed protest hold in Edo State, it will definitely aid the quick exit of the People Democratic Party (PDP)-led government because according to him, “Governor Godwin Obaseki has not provided good governance in the past seven years.”
The Senator who urged people of Edo state to vote for him at the forthcoming polls, pledged to prioritize education, healthcare, security infrastructures and make commendable achievements in his first 100 days in office, if he emerged victorious.
He took a swipe at the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, accusing him of deliberately isolating himself from his people until recently when he indicated interest to contest the gubernatorial election in the state.
According to him, “I never knew Obaseki’s godson, Asue who claimed to have come from my Senatorial District (Edo Central).
“I only got to know of him when someone drew my attention that a bank chairman donated N100,000 to an Esan security architecture known as Atanakpa.
“I raised the bar of the donations and even donated vehicles for the local vigilantes when I discovered that what was donated was not enough. So, find out where these people have been.
“That’s why I have assured Edo people that if I’m elected the governor of the state, insecurity will become a thing of the past in the state and our people will be able to return to their farms.”
