As the Gubernatorial election in Edo State, draws near, Edos in the Diaspora have advocated level playing field for all participating political parties that are engaged in the election.
The Diasporas frown against the arrest of members of some party Chieftains, faithful and supporters of the PDP by security agencies which are supposed to be nonpartisan as they are paid by public tax payers funds.
They warned that if unchecked could results to voters apathy and undermine the tenets of democratic principles.
They unequivocally called for level playing field for all parties without fear or favour, urging all eligible voters to come out en-mass to exercise their franchise without fear of harassment and intimidations.
They admonished the police and security agencies to be neutral before, during and after election while ensuring that everyone involved in the election processes are fully protected.
The Edos in the Diaspora, further pray for a peaceful election, even as they urged political parties, their candidates and supporters to campaign with issues that are capable of improving the lives of the citizenry.
The group also reminded the INEC to live up to expectations by ensuring that the Edo election is conducted under a convivial atmosphere of freedom, fairness and credibility.
They called on INEC to remember that they’re independent in nature, urging them to shun any form of undue pressure and gratification of any impeding manipulation of votes cast to favour any candidate and party of interest which they stated that is against electoral Act 2023 and democracy in Nigeria.
The group, however disclosed that their preferred candidate which they declared as Asue Ighodalo who they said has the best interest of the Edolites home and abroad.
