The newly sworn in chairman of the Edo State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Damian Lawani, has resumed duties with members of his commission in Benin City.
Hon. Lawani is a legal practitioner. He was the state commissioner for Youth and Sports, and a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly where chaired the appropriation committee.
Hon. Lawani and members of the commission at the resumption of duty on Wednesday, immediately held a closed door meeting with the staff of the commission, where he promised to change the narratives of the commission in line with the mandate of the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
But addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting with the staff of the local government commission, Hon. Damian Lawani, disclosed that issues concerning training, welfare and elimination of ghost workers across the 18 local government councils, were discussed during his meeting with the staff of the commission.
According to him, “I just resumed office as the chairman of the commission alongside with the members. And also met with the staff of the commission to let them know our vision and mission in line with the Governor Okpebholo’s vision “Edo State is Rising ” that means, things must be done differently.
“I made it clear to them that, the era of council chairmen coming to tell them, this is the number of staff in my council is over. I can assured you guys that we will do head count from one council to the other. We need to have accurate figures or number of staff, not by proxy. That era is gone.
“We have also told them the need for training for staff so that we can get the best out of them, staff welfare is guaranteed for them so that they can put in their best in service delivering.
“So, in line with the mandate of the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, we are ready here in this commission to change the narratives. No more business as usual in our Local Government Council Areas.”
