The Yuletide season is that time of the year that the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), roll out its drums to celebrate the outgoing year with staff and friends and reward excellence, as well as reflects on its performance.
Thus on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, the UBTH premises, adorned with beautiful decorations was a place to be as the management of the hospital hosted the annual Christmas Concert and Award Night, where hard work and excellence were celebrated and rewarded.
The Christmas Concert and Award Night, afforded the UBTH management team proudly led by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Darlington Obaseki, to reinforce the value of its staff as the bedrock of its success, and reward those with exceptional performances in the outgoing year.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Darlington Obaseki, who highlighted the institution’s strides in healthcare delivery to Nigerians, noted that the annual Christmas Concert and Award Night, was a day set aside to “thank God and celebrate our staff for their unwavering dedication and outstanding work.”
He disclosed that since his emergence as the hospital’s CMD about seven years ago, his vision has remained to rebrand UBTH into a foremost healthcare institution synonymous with excellence by changing the old narrative.
According to him, “from improving hospital equipment to ensuring uninterrupted services, our staff have gone above and beyond in 2024. We’ve treated nearly 300,000 patients and performed over 40,000 surgeries this year, a feat that underscores the depth of our commitment to the health and wellbeing of Nigerians.
“We wanted a UBTH where the market vendors would proudly offer rebates to staff simply because of the hospital’s reputation for professionalism and care”, Prof. Obaseki posited.
Highlights of the ceremony were the entertainment of staff and guests, as well as the recognition of some departments and individuals whose contributions were exceptional in maintaining the hospital’s standards.
Prof. Obaseki noted that “these awards are a testament to the larger body of work performed by every member of our team.
“From nurses to pharmacists, doctors to medical lab scientists, and even interns, each one has played an integral role in our success this year. Tonight is about saying thank you for the work you do and encouraging you to achieve even more in the years ahead”, Prof. Obaseki added.
