Immediate past national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Dr. John Odigie-Oyegun, has appealed to Nigerians, particularly residents of Edo State to turn out en-mass to vote for all the APC candidates in the March 9, 2019 Governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Odigie-Oyegun, pioneer civilian governor of Edo State, in a press statement in Benin City, stated that the APC being the ruling party at the National level, should as a necessity have comfortable number of legislators in the various state houses of assembly so as to engender smooth running of State affairs.
According to the former APC national chairman, “The Presidential and National Assembly elections have come and gone and the APC won. We must now repeat that victory in a more resounding and emphatic way in the forth coming state Assembly elections which will be upon us in a few days.
“It has become therefore necessary to make this strong appeal. Every time I am in Benin, I have observed an overwhelming consensus cutting across all levels of the society that the Governor has performed excellently well in all the areas of governance and that he does this with no attempt at self-glorification. Such a man deserves an undiluted legislative support.
“The state’s Assembly plays a pivotal role in the decisions that affect the economic and social wellbeing of the people. The Governor requires a solid majority to successfully discharge his responsibilities. The reason why the present government has been able to achieve this level of development is precisely because APC enjoys the majority of members in the House.
“This message therefore seeks to remind the people of Edo state that a vote for APC in the forth coming state’s House of Assembly election is a vote for continuous construction of good roads; is a vote for youth job creation, is a vote for quality health care; is a vote for sincere and quality governance.
“We must not allow any sentiment to affect our voting pattern. We must vote overwhelmingly for all the APC candidates for the purpose of ensuring that this Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his team is given the legislative protection and buffer needed to sustain and continue the present pace of development.
“We have done it before at precisely the same period four years ago and we must do it again. It is imperative that we return APC candidates in all the constituencies. This is an urgent clarion call on the good people of Edo state. We must not make any mistake. Sustain the development. Vote APC” he added.
