Koko Junction Accident Was Avoidable – John Yakubu

A former Chairman of Esan North East Local Government  and a strong governorship aspirant in the 2024 Edo state election, Hon John Yakubu, has described the recent Koko Junction accident where some Nigerians were burnt to death and several others with vary degrees of injuries, as a monumental disaster that was avoidable,if governments were alive to their responsibilities.

He regretted that there will be no end to such avoidable disaster, if governments at both the federal and state levels do not live up  to their responsibilities to make our highways safe for travelling.

He said that despite the endless cries of the citizens about the poor state of federal roads in Edo and Delta States, nothing has been done to fix them.

He suggested that federal roads be handed over to the state governments as they are in a better position to manage them since they are closer to them than Abuja, noting that with adequate funding the states will do a better job of keeping the roads safe for motoring.

He lamented that despite the clear danger inherent in the scooping of petrol from fallen trailers, citizens still take the risk to scoop for fuel  due to poverty.

Hon Yakubu who is a PDP 2024 Edo Governorship aspirant promised that if elected governor, the fight to eradicate poverty and help restore the peoples dignity will be one of his cardinal programmes.

He commiserated with the families who lost dear ones in the incident and prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the victims. He also wished the injured ones speedy recovery.
