Benin City was agog this weekend as one of the leading Labour Party (LP) candidates, Prince Tom Iseghohi, declares his intention to occupy the exalted seat of Edo government in Osadebey Avenue, come November, this year.
Accompanied by several hundreds of his supporters, political associates and well-wishers to the state party secretariat of the LP in Benin City, where he unfolded his plans for the people of the state, if voted in as governor of the state.
Prince Tom Iseghohi, who is an original home boy and a popular political figure from Uromi, Esan North East local government area of the state, has thrown his hat into the ring to contest the governorship election slated to hold in September, 2024.
He is contesting the gubernatorial election under the platform of the Labour Party (LP), where he unfolded his political agenda to the party leaders, his teeming supporters and members of the public.
According to him, having understood the basic fundamental socio-economic and political problems of the state, he has decided to contest the governorship election in order to apply his wealth of knowledge of the political environment of the state and to render good governance for the benefits of the people.
Prince Iseghohi stated that as an accomplished businessman, astute politician and an acclaimed academic scholar, who has travelled across the length and breadth of the state and having grew up in Benin City, he understands the terrain and the way of the people.
He disclosed that to his greatest dismay, the people are suffering and lacking many good things of life in the midst of abundance resources, which forms the major reason he has now step out to fill the gap, trying to give back to the society.
He therefore appealed to the people, especially the party leaders to give him the opportunity to govern the state to enable him provide the needed benefits of democracy to the people of the state.
Prince Iseghohi, expressed confidence in picking the sole ticket during the primary election of the party which would inturn ushered him into the governorship election.
He however, expressed disappointment in the current administration in the state which he claimed has failed in her primary responsibility of tackling insecurity, unemployment and misappropriation of the scares resources available to the state.
He further promised that when given the opportunity, he would make sure all those lapses will become a thing of the past in Edo State.
Also speaking, State Chairman of the party, Mr Kelly Ogbaloi, described the ‘august’ visitor as one of the party leading candidates who had visited the party secretariat to express his intention to run for the forthcoming governorship election.
He stated that Prince Iseghohi, is fully committed to developing and contributing to the growth of the state when given the opportunity as a flag bearer of the party, and when he eventually wins the governorship election in September, this year.
