Tension is brewing in Okuoma community following the tragic murder of 17 Military personnel on peace mission in Okuoma community as elders and youths continue to flee in droves .
Recall that on March 14th 2024 17 military personnel of the 181 amphibious battalion of the Nigerian Army on peace mission were gruesomely attacked and murdered by fleeing irate youths angered over the recent demolition of illegal refineries in the community. However, it was gathered that the army personnel were responding to a distress call over clashes between Okoloba and Okuoma communities over land disputes on March 14th 2024 when 17 senior army personnel and soldiers comprising 2 army majors, a captain and 14 soldiers on a peace mission in Okuoma community were ambushed and killed causing a national outcry over the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the South-South region and other parts of the country.
In recent days headless bodies are daily discovered floating on the river bank in Okuoma community days after the gruesome killings as possible fears of military response looms. Meanwhile, the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Police in conjunction with the Nigerian Army have declared all youth leaders and representatives in Okuoma community wanted in the wake of the recent assault which claimed 17 of its personnel.
Following the recent declaration, youths and elders in Okuoma community have continued to flee from the community in their numbers in order to escape possible arrest . Prominent amongst the representatives of the youths who are currently at large are Ogaga Oghenekhewe, Mudiaga Tega, Imaralu Endurance Imarenezor and Theophilus Amankhu. The Command urged any member of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing youths, should report at the nearest police station.
