The Edo Media Executives Forum, an umbrella association of heads of media organizations in Edo State, has congratulated the newly elected national executive members of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ), particularly one of its members, Comrade Dr. Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde, who was elected as the Deputy National President of the union.
Dr. Oyetunde who is the immediate past chairman of the Edo Media Executives Forum, and the other new NUJ national officers, were elected during the union’s 8th Triennial Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo State on Wednesday, November 26, 2024.
A press statement signed by Comrades Nosa Idele-Ogbeide, and Peace Ifidon,
Chairman and Secretary of the Forum, respectively, reads in parts:
“The fact that Dr. Abimbola emerged unopposed to become the first ever female National Deputy President of the NUJ, is a testament to her competence, hard work, dedication and outstanding leadership qualities. Her emergence also paves the way for women journalists and other women in Nigeria to aspire to leadership positions in their chosen careers.
“The Forum also felicitates with the newly elected President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya on his resounding victory at the election. The resounding victory showed that Nigerian journalists repose implicit confidence in Alhassan Yahya to lead them forward.
“With Alhassan and Abimbola leading the NUJ, we are assured that the popular A+A combination will deliver in its campaign promises and provide quality leadership for the Union”, the statement added.
