How Angry Edo Dep Gov Chased BEDC MD, Others Out of His Office

For the Board Management and Staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), this is not the best of time to be smiling as they are facing serious opposition and resistance for their alleged epileptic electricity power supply to their customers.

Condemnations from Civil Societies, residents and lately top government official in their area of coverage are becoming louder every passing day.

Worst still, these antagonisms have intensified just few months to the expiration of BEDC fire years operational license.

Thus, knowledgeable energy observers and public commentators are of the strong opinion that these running battles are not good signs towards the renewal of the nearly expired BEDC operational license.

Only last week, the no-nonsense Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu walked out the visiting officials of the company including its Managing Director, Mrs. Funke Osibudu from his office during a courtesy call at Government House, Benin City.

Mrs. Osibudu got the Edo Deputy Governor angry when she reportedly said that the reason why states under BEDC are not receiving improved power supply was because there are too many unnecessary power users.

Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who was upset with such comment and thereby opted that the BEDC Managing Director should analyze the meaning of “unnecessary power users”.

But she could not satisfy the Comrade Deputy with her explanation and as a result, the number two Edo State citizen excused the BEDC officials out of his office.

The Reliance further gathered that after much appeals by the officials, they were later made to see the Deputy Governor who instructed them to go improve on power distribution and make the overall populace in the state enjoy constant and affordable power supply.

He however frowned at the continuous usage by BEDC of damaged poles, obsolete transformers, over-billing, amongst others.
