Warri Is An Extension Of Benin Kingdom, Says Olu Of Warri

Warri Kingdom in Delta State is an extension of Benin Kingdom in Edo State, HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri, has declared.
The Olu of Warri made the assertion when he played host to the Oba of Benin, HRM, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, last week in his palace in Warri.
The Benin royal father had told the Ogiame that he was his palace to thank him and his people for the role they played during his coronation ceremony in Benin City, last year.
Oba Ewuare II used the visit to call on traditional rulers to continue to work for the peace, security and development of their people.
The Oba of Benin said he appreciated the support and presence of the Olu of Warri and Itsekiri people during his coronation.
The Omo N’Oba said the Itsekiri and Edo share common bond and ancestry, and harped on the need for them to continue to emphasis those things that unite them rather than what will create division among the people.
The Benin Monarch described the visit as historic, and thank them for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage.
But in a brief remark, the Olu of Warri said Warri is an extension of Benin Kingdom and they are the same people from common race.
He said he was happy to receive the Omo N’Oba in his Palace, and assured that the bond will be stronger as he will be relating closely with the Oba of Benin on various issues.
The occasion witnessed the display of the rich culture and tradition of Itsekiri people.
Various gifts were later presented to His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Benin, which included products from the rivers in Warri Kingdom.
The Omo N’Oba was accompanied on the visit by members of the Benin Royal family including the Crown Prince, Prince Ezelekhai Ewuare, Prince Igbinidu Ewuare, Prince Ehioze Erediauwa, among other princes and princesses.
Others include Palace Chiefs, Enigie, Ohen and other prominent personalities in Benin Kingdom.
