BLACK AND PROUD

BY AJOKPA-OGHENE OMO REPRODUCED BY OREGBE OMORODION

There is a natural instinct in every man, an inborn yearning that drives all men towards accomplishing something valuable and credible for the good of all humanity! Ironically, those who give vent to that yearning and dare to make a difference through the proposition of a new order of things and a surgical departure from erroneously accepted ideals are often disparaged or even out rightly scorned. I am not expecting much ovation from these series of my publications that epitomizes my “Black and Proud” or “Pan African ideas, particularly from the key beneficiaries! It is a well known fact that, “THE TRUTH, WHICH MAKES MEN FREE, IS MOST TIMES THE TRUTH WHICH MEN PREFER NOT TO HEAR”. Indeed, men have been known to prefer the “fish giver” to’ those who will teach them “how to fish”.

The Black people of this generation, facilitated by modern education are in distress and have continued to labor under intense poverty due to acute shortage of visionary leaders. Strange enough, like it is with most heroes, the few great leaders that emerged will be despised and rejected! The reason is not far-fetched, “PEOPLE WHO CAN’T SEE BEYOND THE PRESENT ARE THE ONES SOCIETY CELEBRATE RATHER THAN THOSE WITH TELESCOPIC GRACE, WHO CAN SEE INTO THE FUTURE”. It is therefore not surprising to see heroes scorned, persecuted and rejected by their people until the fruit of their labor is made manifest.

The greatness and success that the Black continent desires is not only a function of “resources and population” but more of the “quality and mindset” of educated Black Africans. A people are deemed as lacking in quality if they despise their own “values, cultures” and when their education leaders deprive them of nationally or racially developed “orientation and ideology”. They are considered as derelicts or lesser humans (baser sort), because they have no developed “values culture and heritage” to sell to the global community.

In this modern world of science and industrialization, any human race that  refuses to develop her own cultures, values, customs and traditions through the process of industrialization after acquiring “modern education”, will remain limited and humiliated as is the case with Black Africans today. It look like, “EDUCATED AFRICANS NEED TO BE RE-EDUATED ABOUT THE TRUE MEANING OF EDUCATION”. Black Africans must resist the temptation of the “BROADWAY SYNDROME” which is an unholy ease characterized by undisguised dependence on the developed values or readymade ideals and resources of White people with its attendant corruption, poverty and self-destructive tendencies. Rather, we should embrace the “NARROW WAY PHILOSOPHY” which though connotes an uneasy path, guarantees self-development, self-discovery and self-actualization through hard work resulting ultimately’ in permanent economic, political and ideological progress.

In truth, African leaders must strive to develop both the people’s values and the resources God has endowed us with for enduring economic stability. We must practice the principle of “duality”, which means the combination of “internal and external resources” (independent and dependent resources) for us to achieve our African dream. Anything outside the combination of both i.e. permanent dependence on only the developed products of foreigner’s values to the detriment of the modernization of African culture, orientation and ideology by educated Black people, is tantamount to restricting the progress of Black children and future generations.

Sub-Saharan Africa, inhabited by only the Black race is in desperate need of heroic leaders who can translate their acquired education into a rejuvenated mind-set for the refinement and meaningful development of all the products, raw materials and values of African environment and economy. When this happens, Black people will no longer look down on the very values that make us unique as Africans that we were educated, to develop. We will be saved from the humiliation of being treated as the scum of the earth by the rest of the world and be rewarded with stable economic progress and human dignity.

Due to the disorientation and decadence of values prevalent in many Black African states, African citizens are often victims of exploitative politicians and deceptive religious and spiritual leaders who use the power of eloquence and alluring rhetoric’s to deceive the ignorant such that, what is negative is embraced as positive. This negative life style will stop when Black heroes emerge to accomplish the vision of protecting our future societies, for, “EVERY VISION IS A JOKE UNTIL A MAN ARISES TO ACCOMPLISH IT”. The truth is that the hero for Black African development and survival will not be acknowledged until the Black race is ideologically and culturally liberated.

African leaders must be ready to make sacrifices even to the point of death for the development that will safeguard the future of our generations unborn, because “A MAN WHO CANNOT DIE FOR SOMETHING IS UNFIT TO LIFE”. A hero is one, who is ready to pass through the excruciating furnace of heroism.

Black Africans must wake up generally from their slumber and cry out against bad, slavish and culturally corrupted leadership, for this is our responsibility. It is high time we know that “IT IS BEDER TO DIE IN THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM, THAN TO PROLONG ONE’S LIFE IN THE SHAMBLES OF SLAVERY”. Any race whose educated leaders are enslaved mentally to foreign values and cultures in this current scientific era is a race bent on perpetuating slavery. Let me point out that, if the laws against folly in leadership are invoked, Black African leaders will be in deep “shit” as the consequence of their actions and inactions. In this course, I am willing to make sacrifices.
