As Bishop Osadolor Ochei, a human rights activist, drags former Edo state governor, now national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to a Federal High Court, Abuja, over alleged massive looting of the state’s resources, another Benin-based human rights activist, Comrade Osazee Edigin, has challenged the eligibility of Egor Local Government Council Chairman in Edo State, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia.
The allegation which has put the integrity of Council boss on the spotlight and left instant judgements on social media, bothers on alleged discrepancies in the documents she used to contest Egor Local Government Council election held on March 3, 2018.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Edo Civil Society Organizations (EDOCSO), Comrade Osazee Edigin, is asking for explanation from Eghe Ogbemudia to clarify, considering the significant political risk ahead of the public office holder.
Eghe, is the daughter of a former governor of the defunct Bendel State (now Edo and Delta States), Brigadier-General Samuel Ogbemudia (rted) who died over year ago.
She was elected along with 17 other Local Government Council Chairmen on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) on March 3, 2018 elections.
In an open letter which Comrade Osazee Edigin personally signed and made available to The Reliance, he raised issues of concern “as an indigene of Useh Community, Egor Local Government Area”.
Edigin, challenged the Council boss, to prove the validity or otherwise the educational documents which she submitted to the State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) for clearance for the election.
The human rights activist in the letter to Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, reads in part: “I write on this note to get clarification as to the correctness and appropriateness of the results/documents alleged to have been used by your person to vie for the Chairmanship position you currently occupy.
“The documents you (Eghe Ogbemudia) paraded and submitted to EDSIEC were being forged and or/misleading and that you lied on Oath about the loss of your West Africa Senior Certificate Examinations Certificate which you swore to an Affidavit to that effect”.
But reacting to the allegations via a telephone conversation, the Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia denied receipt of any letter of such from Comrade Osazee Edigin, saying she has no certificate issue with any person or agency.
“I am not aware of any letter from him (Comrade Osazee Edigin). I did not receive any letter from him and I have no problem with my papers”, she said, even as she ended the telephone conversation abruptly.
