Determined to reinvigorate the speedy completion of on going projects and initiation of new ones geared towards the transformation of Edo state, the reversed 2018 supplementary budget transmitted to the house of assembly by the executive governor of Edo state, Mr Godwin Obaseki has been considered and approved by the house.
At the resumption of plenary on Monday, Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Kabiru Adjoto who presided over the plenary said the reversed supplementary budget made up of additional 10 billion, Eight hundred and seventy four million naira., bringing the total budget to one hundred and 60 billion, nine hundred and sixty seven million, three hundred and thirty four thousand, thirty three naira as captured by the executive arm to fastrack the execution of people oriented projects in the state.
The speaker who affirmed the support of members, suspended rules 42,43,44,45,46,47,48,and55 of the house to enable parliament give speedy consideration to the budget.
The majority leader, Hon. Roland Asoro said the speedy consideration of the supplementary budget has become necessary as it will cater for some critical sectors of the economy and projects execution.
After affirming the overwhelming support of members, the reversed supplementary budget was passed into law while the speaker directed the clerk to send copies of the budget to the governor for his assent.
The speaker also announced the lifting of the three months suspension earlier slammed on the member representing Owan East constituency, Hon Foly Ogedengbe for his misdemeanor in the impeachment of the former deputy speaker.
Amidst growing criticism, by the flagrant disregard of the house directives by the ousted deputy speaker, Rt Hon Victor Edoror to return government vehicles in his possession to the house, the speaker directed the state commissioner of police to within 48 hours retrieve all government vehicles still in the hands of the former deputy speaker to the house.
But speaking under personal explanations, the member representing Esan North East constituency 1, Hon Patrick Iluobe drew the house attention to the death of a political icon and Iyasele of Esan land, chief Anthony Akhahon Anenih at the age of 85 years.
He recalled the contributions of chief Anenih to the restoration of democracy in the country in 1999 and the various positions held which translated to the attraction of the Benin City bye pass and the Dualisation of Benin Asaba road amongst other things.
Hon Iluobe appreciated Edo state government for declaring three days of mourning and it’s resolve to accord the Elder statesman, a state burial which transcends beyond party affiliation, just as the speaker requested members to observe a minutes silence in honour of the former minister of works and board of trustee chairman of PDP.
