About 500 Persons Benefitted From LAPO Health Outreach At Oko Community
Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), a non-profit and non-governmental organization with headquarter in Benin City, Edo State, has reiterated its commitment to the social health and economic empowerment of the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the Executive Director of the Organization, Comrade Sabina Idowu-Osehobo at the 12th edition of Community Health Outreach organized by the organization at Oko Community in Benin City, Oredo Local Government Area of the State.
She said over the years, LAPO has demonstrated uncommon commitment to Poverty Alleviation through the implementation of social health and economic empowerment programmes targeting disadvantaged groups in the country.
The programme which she said was supported by Oredo Local Government Council was aimed at improving the lives of the people of Oko community and it environs which were expected to attract over 500 people for the two-day event.
The executive director attributed low government spending combined with weak institutions and inadequate supervision that led to inadequate primary health care infrastructure and poor health delivery at the community level, adding that those mostly affected are the rural communities where many health facilities lack access to clean water, electricity and shortage of medical equipment and dearth of medications to treat patients.
The organization said the participation of the local government council simply showed that the government recognizes and appreciates services that will improve the health conditions of the residents.
The organization also appreciated the support of the Odionwere of Oko Community and other stakeholder in the area.
She also expressed the organization’s gratitude to the medical personnel who left their duties homes to provide health services for the people.
Highlight of the-day event was the treatment of several hundreds of residents of the area, who were also provided with free drugs by the health personnel drafted to the area by LAPO.
