Don’t Sell Free Mosquito Nets, Okowa Warns Distributors

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, has warned that the nets being distributed have already been paid for by the state government and should not be resold by distributors.
Governor Okowa, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, at the official flag off of the distribution of free Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINS) at the Event Centre in Asaba, stated that anyone caught in the act of reselling would be regarded as working against the good of the people.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to the control of the spread of malaria and by extension, the sustainable health of all Deltans because according to him, ‘human development begins with ensuring that the people are healthy.
According to the governor, to substantiate the administration commitment to eradicate malaria, efforts were being made to control flooding in the state, while ensuring that the drainages which are often the breeding grounds for mosquitoes are effectively attended to.
The Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Health, Dr. Mininie Oseji, while delivery her welcome address earlier at the event, said that the gesture of the state government in this regard was a commendable one.
According to her, “The proper and consistent use of LLINS as a vector control measures has reduced malaria episode in various households. The replacement campaign is a welcome process that will raise ownership of LLINS and its utilization in the various homes in the state.”
Attendees and concerned women groups were practically lectured on the proper use of the net by the state health instructor, Mrs. Ijeoma Popo, while she advised that the nets should first be aired under a shade for 24 hours before use.
A total of 17,000 registered distributors were equipped to commence the house to house distribution of the nets.
