Buhari: Most Nigerians Are Unhappy Over Tribunal Judgement – Imasogie

A frontline politician in Edo State, Owere Dickson Imasogie has appealed to the Supreme Court to do all that is necessary to “redeem the battered image of the Nigerian judiciary”.
Imasogie, the Odionwere of Oza Community, who spoke to The Reliance in Benin City, against the backdrop of the recent judgment by the Presidential Election Tribunal in the case between Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Mohammadu Buhari, posited that the Nigerian judiciary was in dire need of redemption.
Atiku Abubakar, the 2019 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had dragged President Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the election petition tribunal, in his bid to reclaim what he termed stolen mandate.
But to the chagrins of many Nigerians, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja last Wednesday, in its judgment affirmed the election of President Mohammadu Buhari.
One of the many Nigerians dissatisfied with the judgment is a chieftain of the PDP, Owere Dickson Imasogie who described the outcome of the court case as a very bad omen for the people of Nigeria.
He said the judiciary which ought to be the last hope for the common man, has allowed itself to be hijacked by the executive arm of government, noting that it is high times the judiciary exercise her independence in all her activities.
“From what happened at the Appeal Court, it’s obvious that some of the Justices in Nigeria have sold themselves to the presidency or the executive arm.
“That is the reason that I am appealing to the Justices at the Supreme Court to do the needful in the election case between PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and the APC’s Mohammadu Buhari, president of Nigeria.
“The constitution of Nigeria and the electoral laws are very clear for all to see but rather than uphold the laws, members of the tribunal made themselves to be the mouthpiece of the APC and President Buhari.
“The law says you have must have at least a primary six certificate and any others to be qualified to contest for the position of the President of Nigeria but Buhari could not present his primary six certificate and the tribunal refused to say or do anything about it.
“From what transpired at the presidential election tribunal, I am very, very sure that members of the international community will be laughing at Nigeria and Nigerians because the Appeal Court tribunal has made us a laughing stock.
“This is shameful. A president without primary six certificate presiding over the affairs of a country like Nigeria? This is why most Nigerians are not happy about the judgment of the court.
“If the Supreme Court allows the judgment of the lower to stand, then, Nigeria is doomed because it means that the INEC and the judiciary have indirectly told Nigerians that there is no need to go to school because certificates do not matter or counts.
“In fact, over 95% of Nigerians are not happy with the judgment of the presidential Appeal tribunal. These same Nigerians want the Supreme Court to look dispassionately at the issues before her and give appropriate judgment.
“The Supreme Court should do the needful and make Nigerians to be able to be happy and raise their heads very high knowing that there is justice in Nigeria.
“The Supreme Court should redeem the nation’s judiciary and not serve or promote injustice in the country. So, over 95% of Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora will be very happy if the Supreme Court reverse the judgment of the Appeal Court.” Owere Imasogie posited.
