Secrets Of My Success As VC Of UNIBEN – Prof. Salami

Professor (Mrs.) Lilian Imuentinyan Salami, Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin has described the success recorded by her administration within the last 100 days in office, as a collective effort.

The Vice Chancellor made the remark on Monday in Benin City during a press conference to mark her 100 days office.

Prof. Salami described as impressive, the efforts and dedication to work by staff of the
institution, since her assumption of office as the Vice Chancellor of the university.

She said workers of the Institution are always at their duty posts daily as early as 8am looking forward to do their best, while her
administration has on the other hand made effort to encourage them to give their best.

According to her, some of the things done to encourage the staff were the commencement of timely payment of part-time allowances owed staff, and released of impress to heads of departments for effective running of the system.

Prof. Salami disclosed that the University of Benin has an innovative hub that is second to none in the whole country and is recognized internationally.

The Vice Chancellor said, she came to office She stated that her appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the institution came at a time UNIBEN was going through unrest and that since her assumption of office, most of the issues that necessitated the unrest have been effectively resolved.

She said water is now running un-interruptedly daily on campus because the problems hitherto affecting the smoothness of water supply had all been fixed, noting that four out of the five boreholes are now working perfectly, whereas only one was functional when she took over the reigns of institution.

On electricity, the Vice Chancellor said electricity supply has greatly improved with the instruction’s collaboration with Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).

She further disclosed that the improvement has resulted in the lighting of the institution’s environment with the fixing of 120 electricity poles during the time under review.

On the area of sanitation, she revealed that the university authority under her watch has procured it’s own compactors to aid refuse disposal.

Prof. Salami commended Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for his assistance in renovating the university hostels, saying that the State has also promised to assist in relocating the present bus park in the
institution to a new location.

The VC also noted that her administration has rehabilitated the instruction’s fire service
department which she added has remained at the beck and call of the whole state.

Also, Institution’s Abbattiore has received major facelifts, while the university’s secondary school, where a lot of chairs and desks have been procured, thus making it possible for a child to have a desk and chair to himself or herself alone with many chairs and desks in reserve.

Acknowledging the fact that majority of the institution students live off-campus, Prof. Salami stated that the Institution reached out to her immediate community by way of drawing the state government’s attention to bad state of the roads during her recent visit to the governor.

Prof. Salami said the institution has also opened it’s gates to her immediate
community for easy access to other part of the city, due to the bad nature of
roads in those communities.

While disclosing that vigilante groups have been engaged to aid security in the community. the Vice Chancellor said her administration was working tirelessly to
change the negative narratives of great UNIBEN.
