Hell was let loose in Abudu community, the administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, following accusations that the a community leader, Pa, Sunny Izokor, sexually assaulted a Junior Secondary School (JSS) class two student simply identified as Gift.
The community leader, 82, was alleged to have sexually abused the teenage girl, 13, at different times before it became public knowledge.
Gift who was said to have lost her parents some years ago, but currently being taken care of by her uncle.
Outraged members of the community reportedly took turns to rain curses and abuses on the accused leader, even as many descended on him over the abominable act.
It took the timely intervention of the operatives of Abudu Police Division of the Nigeria Police to prevent the situation from degenerating.
The police were said to have rescued the community leader from the angry mob and took him into custody.
Trouble reportedly started for the accused after a friend of the teenager who was in the know of the defilement, mocked the 13-year-old girl with the community leader’s sexual assault on her.
It was gathered that the development drew the attention of the Gift’s uncle and neighbours who out of curiosity questioned the rationale behind her friend’s remarks.
According to a witness who simply identified himself as Otamere, “Upon further inquiry, Gift opened up that the community leader had been having canal knowledge of her since early 2019.
But when contacted, the State police spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, said he was yet to be briefed on the matter.
