Obaseki Have Good Selling Points- Imasogie

A frontline and committed leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Owere Dickson Imasogie, has described as “strategic” the recent defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki from the All Progressives Congress (APC), to the PDP.

The PDP chieftain who fielded questions from journalists in Benin City, shortly after the governor’s collection of the membership card of the PDP, said the governor defected when it was almost late to take such action.

“Any active political party would certainly be excited having a sitting governor of a state, with his party ruling at the centre, decamping to an opposition party.  It shows, amongst other considerations, the valuable rating and respect the defecting governor has for that party.

“So, we in the PDP have accepted Governor Obaseki into our fold and the leadership of the party has granted him and his Deputy the necessary waivers to contest on the platform of the party.”

Owere Imasogie who emphasized that the party was a huge humane umbrella of protection for political like-minds, remarked rhetorically “what kind of inhuman umbrella would the PDP be if it would not provide shelter and comfort for a governor whose party, the APC, had been tormenting him with heavy acidic rains and thunderstorms?

“He is here (in PDP) with us now, safe and sound.  And henceforth, Edo has become a PDP state,” the political strategist stated.

Owere Imasogie, however debunked the rumours that Governor Obaseki induced leaders of the PDP with several billions of Naira, wondering how detractors could effortlessly spin such blatant propaganda.

He noted that what transpired between the party and the governor was mutual, as the sitting governor certainly has his own qualities, selling points and attractions.

The PDP leader criticized the APC-led federal government for “obviously groping in the dark in its inability to provide positive direction and tackle raging issues of insecurity, corruption, ailing economic fortunes and hunger in the land.”

He called on Nigerians to continue to give their support to the PDP “so we can bring Nigeria back to the path of true recovery and health.

“You can see that the cabal-led APC presidency is docile and almost non-existent.  The APC as a party is now in tatters with over four officers of the party claiming to be the acting national chairman in just twenty-four hours alone.  It is a clear sign of leadership failure both for the presidency and in the party structure.

“Those who say that when you join the APC your sins are forgiven have murdered sleep, and they cannot sleep anymore.  Any wonder that Nigeria is not making progress? A docile presidency without enthusiasm and an APC without leadership are sliding the country into crises on all fronts,” the political juggernaut.
