Uromi: Is Miss Mercy Akhigbe Missing?
An Uromi lady known as Mercy Akhigbe, has been declared missing by her father, Pa. Akhigbe.
The Octogenarian disclosed to our Crime Correspondent, that she last saw her beloved daughter last last year (2021), about the time she was supposed to be initiated into the Ogboni Secret Cult.
According to Pa. Akhigbe, “it’s a known fact that as her father who is the chief controller of the group, haven attained the age of 80, my first child who is Mercy will automatically be the next person to take over the headship of the group and duties in the cult and so she must become a member of the group through initiation and other secret rites.
“I have been preparing my daughter’s mind towards it being my first born but she had from to time rejected being a member of the Ogboni group because she is a Christian.
“She normally told me that it is taboo for her to belong to group but I have been telling her that it’s something she must do because it’s our rule and that anyone who flouts the rule must pay with his or life.
“I have been trying to make her see reasons with me but she has been very stubborn and now the deadline for her to be initiated has past and my fear now is that whether she has gone into hiding or that Ogboni taskforce members have captured and executed her.
“To refuse to be initiated into the group as first born of any member is viewed as sacrilege and the repercussion is death, using the person’s blood for cleansing and atonement.
“I have reported the matter to the police, even though I know nothing may come out of it because most of the officers are part of us and they fully aware of the procedures.”
But Mercy’s cousin, Mr. Frank Akhigbe, who’s an ardent Christian, disclosed to our correspondent that Mercy was beyond harm way ” I have helped her to escape to Lagos where she flee the country.
“The truth is that my sister, Mercy Akhigbe, is not safe anywhere in Nigeria because these Ogboni people are everywhere and can grab their victims without any difficulty because their members are well connected.
“We are doing everything to keep my sister alive and we are keeping it from her father because he wants her daughter to be a replacement for him when he joins his ancestors but that won’t happen”, Mr. Frank Akhigbe added.
