The legal battle between the Edo State Government and the Ogiamien Dynasty has been brought to an end.
The battle which commenced in 2015 was a case between the State and the Ogiamien dynasty which was to stop the Ogiamiens from parading themselves as a royal family.
It will be recalled that in 2015, the Ogiamien family installed Chief Arisco Osemwengie as the Ogiamien of the Utantan Benin Kingdom. The installation was seen as illegal and therefore, a legal action was established to declared the installation null and void abi nitio.
But just recently, the Edo State Government, through the plaintiff Counsel, Mr Oluwole SAN, withdrew the case from the Oredo Magistrate Court 4. This termination further connotes that the Ogiamien dynasty is free to operate as a royal traditional stool.
Speaking during the case withdrawal, Magistrate Osayande Okuemosi said the court received a letter from the Edo State Government, seeking to terminate every legal battle against the Ogiamien dynasty and she immediately pronounced the termination which was not contested by any party.
Responding to the termination, the counsel to the Ogiamien dynasty, Barr Godwin Oaikhena said “the Edo State Government have seen the reasons why the case need to be terminated.
“It is a right step taken by the State. No one is contesting to be the Oba of Benin. All we are saying is that the government should allow the Ogiamien remain the Ogiamien “, he said.
On his part, Double Chief Monday Wehere said, “we are grateful to God and to the Edo State Government over the way and manner this case is withdrawn.”
The entire Ogiamien family were full of appreciation for the Edo State government.
