Osunbor Is The Person For Edo 2024 Guber, Says Group

By Raphael Okhiria

African Green Peace Initiative (AGPI), a non-governmental organisation based in Nigeria, has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to offer its 2024 governorship elections ticket to a former governor of the state, Prof. Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, saying he’s the best person among other contestants.

AGPI made the call while addressing journalists at the secretariat of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council.

President and Coordinator of the group, Dr. Uzoya Okuogbosun, who spoke on behalf of other members of the group, insisted that Prof. Osunbor has the followership required for the party to take back Edo state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group warned leaders of the APC not to sacrifice merit on the altar of mediocrity or money but rather to base it on capacity, competence and popularity.

He noted that during the period Osunbor served as governor before he was ousted by the Court, he brought about good governance which immensely benefited majority of the people in the state.

Comparing Osunbor with the former governor of the defunct Bendel state, Professor Ambrose Alli, Dr. Okuogbosun, disclosed that the gubernatorial aspirant is a God-fearing and self-effacing leader.

He posited that Osunbor had a visionary leadership style which saw him embark on massive infrastructure development of the state, describing him as the one sent to take Edo to the New age like the sage late Professor Ambrose Alli.

According to him, Prof. Osunbor is “a devout Christian, a God-fearing and self-effacing leader and an embodiment of knowledge in every sphere of life.

“It is going to take a human and visionary personality like Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, to redeem Edo state from the current decay, hopelessness and deadly existence.

“He created a credit system whereby public officers and civil servants were able to access loans for agricultural purposes” adding that, “In his compassionate nature he thought it wise to pay bursary to Edo students in tertiary institutions across the country.

“These Virtues were exemplified by him when as Executive Governor of Edo state for the short period of his administration increased the monthly subvention payable to the State University – Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and other tertiary institutions in the State”.
