Hard Times Await Same-sex Rights/LGBTQ+ – Group

By Felix Azamosa

An antagonistic group of moral rights enforcers known as NO LGBTQ+, has vowed to make things uncomfortable for Nigerians who are involved in homosexualities and same-sex marriages in the country.

The group which described such behaviours as a flagrant violation of the laws of the federal republic of Nigeria, especially as it has to do with her norms and cultural values, said it’s ready give them sleepless nights.

They described the homosexualities and same-sex marriages as highly reprehensible and unpardonable offences, noting that the group will use every lawful means to chase, bring them down and make them to face justice.

According to them, “such reprehensible acts of arrant bestiality cannot be allowed to raise it ugly heads in our midst, and adulterate our sensibilities. We will continue to fight and send them to where they belong.”

Investigation revealed that in the recent time, Edo State has become a melting point of vicious and deadly attacks, with sad tales of death, sorrow and blood, allegedly sponsored by this ferocious and terrifying faceless enforcers, who clandestinely strike their victims, mainly LGTBQ+ and their sympathizers strongly linked with homosexuality and same-sex practice, under the cover of darkness or when no one is watching.

The Nigerian Constitution abhors and prohibits homosexuality and same-sex marriage, the Police, security personnel and other law enforcement agencies, from time to time, raid, arrest and prosecute offenders according to the dictates of the law and legal rights.

Though some human rights activists have averred that the homosexuality and same-sex marriage (Prohibition) Act of January, 2014, which prescribed 14 years jail term for offenders, constitutes a threat and a breach to the basic rights entrenched and guaranteed in the constitution.

But these armed, faceless and lawless “moralists’ group continue to daily operate and leave tales of woes, tears and blood as they harass, maim and eliminate LGBTQ+ affiliates, supporters or sympathizers at the slightest opportunity.

Penultimate month, around the Upper Sokponba axis of Benin City, Edo State, some members of “NO LGBTQ+”, attacked and fatally injured some people suspected to be homosexuals, including Benjamin Omoruyi and Sunday Felicia Ogiugo, for openly demonstrating their approval and affiliation to the cause of the LGBTQ+.

The victims were extremely lucky to have narrowly escaped with their lives but not without injuries to their bodies. The dreaded jungle justice perpetrators, seemed to have meant to eliminate them but luck was on their side.

That not withstanding, their names have have reportedly been added to the black book of “Wanted List” of the dreaded enforcers and assailants against the LGBTQ+.

Names being bandied around town on the list, but who are reportedly at large at the moment, included Omorodion Akhigbe, Adesuwa Osarobo, Osas Felix, Mike Emokpae, Jennifer Godwin, and Rosemary Igbinidu.

Expediently, Rights’ groups, at national, sub-national and international levels should continue to intervene and scale up their concerns through sustained education, enlightenment, sensitization and extension of legal protection to the harassed, discriminated and incriminated affiliates of LGTBQ+ who are now running scared of their lives and forever watching their backs.
