The Sun, Moon, Stars Appear Together As Oba Ewuare II Visits Esanland

phenomenon appeared in the sky during the historic visit of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku-Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, to Esanland as part of his thank you visit to the people for honouring him during his coronation, as the sun, the moon and stars appeared together in the sky at the same time of Oba’s visit.

Oba Ewuare II’s visit has been described by native astrologers as a positive sign, a sort of validation of the ancient covenant of peace and solidarity between the Esan people and the Benin people, described by commentators as “the sun is Benin and the moon is Esan”.

During the visit which took place at Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area of the state, the Oba of Benin responding to one of the requests of the Esan people, promised to intervene in the prolonged case of the former governor Adams Oshiomhole’s suspension of the Onogie of Uromi who was suspended from acting as the traditional head of Kingdom of Uromi.

The Omo N’Oba assured that he was willing to receive delegations from traditional rulers in Esanland on the way forward to resolve the case amicably.

Oba Ewuare II maintained that as the Oba of Benin, he remains the as avenue through which the power of the ancestors continue to guild and protect Benin Kingdom and its people and also to oversee all traditional matters within his purview for guidance, counselling and mediation.

Omo N’Oba stressed that the Palace will partner with government at all levels to fight hunger and ensure socio economic and cultural wellbeing of the people in the land.

While highlighting the various measures the Palace has put in place to ameliorate the current sufferings being experienced in the state, the Benin monarch explained that Oba Ewuare Foundation has began full scale scholarship for the downtrodden and to feed the financially impaired ones in the Edo state irrespective of ethnic or religious backgrounds.

Towards this end, the Oba said Sunday-Sunday farm produce discount market for the needy and one meal a day scheme to feed the hungry poor are being established in Iyaro, Benin City under the Oba Ewuare II Foundation Poverty Alleviation Scheme, and the Oba Ewuare II Foundation Scholarship Scheme.

 

He revealed that the menace of the ruthless activities of herdsmen in the state would soon be over as plans have reach advance stage to curb the inhuman act.

The Benin Royal Father further enjoined the traditional rulers in the country to pursue peace and give supportive hands to the government to achieved a crime free society.

In a welcome address, the Onojie of Ekpoma, H.R.H Barr. Anthony Abumere II, expressed gratitude to the Oba of Benin for the visit, describing the Oba as a father and a brother.

The Onojie of Ekpoma who traced the historical and cultural relationship between the Benin and Esan people said they have the closest affinity in language, culture and social etiquette.

He commended the Benin Monarch for calling for the abolition of the Community Development Associations which he opined became agents of disharmony in all the communities.

H.R.H Abumere stressed the need to re-introduce the teaching of History and local languages in the school system so that our children will learn about the great Benin Empire, its languages and culture.

The Onojie of Ekpoma said Esan people are interested in the agricultural policy of the state government for youths to be gainfully employed, adding that it will help stem the tide of mass migration.

In a remark, the vice chairman of Edo State Traditional Rulers and Chiefs and the Onojie of Opoji, H.R.H Ehidiamen I, described the Oba of Benin as an astute administrator and diplomat, a non partisan who support his children to achieve their political and social ambitions irrespective of ethnicity, religion or sect.

HRH Ehidiamen I said the Oba of Benin as the undisputed, irrevocable father of Edo traditional institution is a solution to all problems confronting the people, pointing out that the Benin throne has always acted as the rally point for
