The people of Ogueka village, Uhunmwode Local Government Council Area, Edo State on Saturday marked one year anniversary of Pa. Samson Egbon as the Odionwere (village/District Head) after approval of HRM. Oba Ewuare II, in July, 2017.
The event which was greeted with funfare, attracted natives from far and near, with the womenfolk led by Madam Grace Enehizena, the eldest woman in the village.
The visibly elated Odionwere Egbon, a retired civil servant, expressed gratitude to Oba Ewuare II for having confirmed him as the choice of the people for the position, a year ago.
He acknowledged that the Monarch resolution of the crisis of who was the authentic and chosen one for the leadership position has in no small measure enthroned peace, and enhanced unhindered progress in the area within the period.
He appealed for the Monarch’s intervention in the boundary dispute between Ogueka and her neighbor; Iguevbiyobo. The dispute is boiling and could lead to unpleasant stories, he said.
On his chievements so far, Odionwere Egbon, asserted that within one year of his leadership, Ogueka village has witnessed great developmental strides, bringing about peace among residents; a departure from what he termed; ‘a tulmultous and bleak past’.
He outlined his achievements in fulfilment of his promises on assumption of office to include; rehabilitation of the hitherto abandoned bore – hole, which is now functional, repair of the old power transformer, and purchase of a new one. Now light supply in the village is relatively steady, he said.
Purchase, and erection of electric concrete – poles in effort to spread light supply to new sites in the village, he added.
Also, under his leadership, government has installed an additional power transformer in the village, while various earth roads have been rehabilitated.
This is as the welfare program of his administration for the Ogueka people has positively impacted no less than four beneficiaries apart from many other incentives that have been dished out.
Appreciating support of his people for the success recorded in the past one year, Odionwere Egbon solicited more understanding and co-operation in the journey into the future to making Ogueka village a better place for all, pride and reference point in Benin Kingdom.
Promising to continue to give responsible, purposeful and impactive leadership, he asserted that anything that will lead to unecessary rancour, and crisis in the area, must be tackled in earnest.
Isaac Iserhienrhien, one of the elders, and Madam Grace Enehizena in their commentaries commended the Benin Monarch for having approved their choice of Egbon as Odionwere of Ogueka.
They acknowledged the developmental stride of his leadership which they noted has enthroned peaceful co – existence among residents; a prevailing situation they described as unprecedented against the backdrop of the immediate ugly past.
Also speaking, the Okaighele, Osarenotor Victor commended Oba Ewuare II for final resolution of the crisis that hitherto troubled the village which he noted has now brought about peaceful co – existence among the people.
He expressed support for the Odionwere in his appeal to the Oba for intervention in the boundary dispute between them and their neighbour, Iguevbiyobo to avoid it snow – balling into a life threatening one.
The appeal becomes necessary as it was quite awhile since they brought the issue to the Palace for the Monarch’s intervention, Victor said.
