In June, 2017, Dr. David Osa Osifo, had a choice to make between being confirmed a Professor in UNIBEN and being appointed a commissioner by Edo State Government.
He saw the commissionership appointment as service to the people while Professor to him was for his personal benefit.
Therefore, he opted to serve the people, because according to him, “the things that benefit me personally shall have the least attention.” Thus he opted for the commissioner’s position.
When he got his first salary alert after two months of appointment as commissioner, he was shocked to discover that his two months salary as commissioner was about half of his one month salary in University of Benin (UNIBEN) and University of Benin Teaching Hospiy (UBTH).
His reaction on this was that no sacrifice was too much to pay in serving the people.
He, thereafter withdrew the whole two months salary and shared it to APC Leaders in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state. At least, 12 Leaders per ward got #5000 (Five thousand naira ) each.
But he was, without warning, relieved of his appointment on Wednesday, 3rd July, 2019. He used Thursday, 4th and Friday 5th, to handover and resumed his normal duty in UBTH/UNIBEN on Monday 8th, July 2019.
His reaction to his disengagement from Edo state government service was this short but powerful message: “Your Excellency, i thank you for the opportunity you gave me to serve the people of Edo State. Kindly don’t forget Uhunmwode LGA in your developmental strides for i have joined you for the past two years to put together their developmental needs”.
He said “My accepting to serve as commissioner was purely to render community service to the people and not for any recognition or financial gains which i already have enough to the Glory of God”.
Upon resumption at UBTH/UNIBEN, he immediately, jump startef the process of his Full Professorship was accelerated and to the glory of God, was confirmed a Ful fledged Professor on Wednesday, 14th August 2019.
