It was a miraculous escape for Owere Dickson Imasogie, a powerful and dependable politician, farmer and philanthropist, during the early hours of Monday, March 15th, 2021, when a raging mysterious fire nearly roasted him alive.
It was like any other good day when in the late hours of Sunday, March 14th, 2021, the unsuspecting political leader retired to his bedroom expecting a peaceful night rest unknown to him that danger was lurking around his dwelling.
The good man Imasogie told the scores of people who thronged to his partly burnt house to sympathize with him, that the mysterious fire attacked him like a thief in the night which was bent on taking his precious life but for the timely intervention from God.
He explained to his bewildered visitors that the mysterious inferno was noticed at about 3am on that fateful but that what was thought to be a gentle fire turned out to be a wild inferno desirous to devour him.
“Those who know my house very well understand that there is only one entry and exit point and bedroom is only accessible from the parlour and fire started from the parlour area and by so doing trapped me inside my bedroom.
“By the time I realized what was happening, my way of escape was already blocked. It became a life or death situation but when hope was almost lost, the almighty God created a way of escape for me.
“I miraculously came out of the burning house without any clothes on me. Unfortunately, nobody could enter the fire to attempt to rescue me because the fire was too massive and spreading very fast as if it was petrol fire.
“By time God brought me out, I met my children, domestic workers and other occupants of the house shouting and crying, saying that ‘Daddy is inside the fire’, ‘Daddy has not come out’.
“Then I said to them, stop crying. I am out of the fire”, Owere Imasogie who celebrated his 80th birthday anniversary two months ago, said in an emotionally laden voice.
The Octogenarian Papa, disclosed that nothing was spared by the monstrous fire in his section of the house, except a bottle of native drink which for whatever reason defiled the inferno and remain standing in it’s place.
He added that it was the timely intervention of the fire service that saved the entire gigantic building from being fully consumed.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the destructive early morning inferno was yet to be ascertained.
