Delta SUBEB Warns Against Illegal School Levies

Mr. Paul Kurugbe, a member of Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has cautioned education secretaries, especially those from Delta State to shun collection of illegal fees from pupils and ensure strict
compliance with academic curriculum.
Kurugbe made the call during an inaugural meeting with Education Secretaries from Delta South senatorial district at his office in
Asaba.
While highlighting some vices the board would not treat with kid gloves, Kurugbe promised that, anybody found wanting would face the
music.
According to him: “The board has identified vices which will not be treated with kid gloves and these vices have become the bane of the state’s primary education sector, which His Excellency, Dr. (Sen.) IfeanyiOkowa-led administration is poised to eradicate.
“The vices include: illegal or unauthorized collection of fees, staff absenteeism, lack of commitment and dedication to service,
insubordination among others.”
He further stated that commitment and dedication to service was a panacea to a brighter future for the pupils as the state government and other agencies were investing so much in the future of the Delta Child.
“I need you to be very committed, dedicated and take your workseriously,” noting that: “The governor has charged the board to take supervision very seriously and to that
effect, the board shall pay unscheduled visits to schools across the state and workers found wanting shall be dealt with accordingly”.
